All day. All night. His feet tread the familiar path. He returns again and again to the instruction that shows the way to blessing. But to me, this is real the kicker:

Even though princes sit plotting against me,
your servant will meditate on your statutes.
Your testimonies are my delight;
they are my counselors.
~ Psalm 119:23-24

Really? There are governments plotting against you and you respond by meditating? There’s not time for that when someone’s plotting against you! Meditation is what you do in you leisure time, when your mind is free from pressures. At least, that’s how I usually treat it.

But if he keeps going to the words that show the way to blessing when his life is threatened, what excuse do I have to quit going to God’s Word when my sick baby keeps fussing? Or when I feel unreasonable pressure at my job?

He isn’t frantically looking for a verse with a quick fix to the situation. His feet sink in deep. He lingers. He gazes. He doesn’t justify his own course of action because the stakes are so high. He is intent on obeying, even in the most threatening situation. And God’s Word, his delight, serves as his advisors.
