You know it’s a good book when years go by and it still changes how you live and how you pray. What I learned in Noel Piper’s short biographies, Faithful Women and Their Extraordinary God, awakens me each time I hear the song that played as I turned the final page.

Harder yet may be the fight,
Right may often yield to might,
Wickedness awhile may reign,
Satan’s cause may seem to gain.
But there is a God that rules above
With hand of power and heart of love
And if I’m right He’ll fight my battle
I shall have peace some day.
~”Beams of Heaven” by Indelible Grace

I remember exactly where I sat on my little blue couch when I closed the book. I remember the tears that ran down my face. I remember the song seemed perfect. That was the night I learned how to pray for the persecuted church. Simple prayers. “Strengthen their faith.” “Don’t let them fall.” “Make their reward great.” “Come quickly, Lord Jesus.”
