It was God who made women beautiful. And he did it for a reason. He uses something we know so well to point to something we can scarcely fathom.
- women desire to feel beautiful
- women work hard to look beautiful
- men desire to marry beautiful women
- people notice when a woman is beautiful
- people are attracted to a beautiful woman
Beauty teaches us about righteousness. Beauty is the shadow. Righteousness is the reality. Read the list above again and replace the word “beautiful” with “righteous.”
Imagine longing for righteousness as often as you long to look beautiful. Know that as a man desires the beauty of his bride so God desires the righteousness of his bride, the Church.
For the Lord our God
the Almighty reigns.
Let us rejoice and exult
and give him the glory,
for the marriage of the Lamb has come,
and his Bride has made herself ready;
it was granted her to clothe herself
with fine linen, bright and pure–
for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints.
We have lived in the shadow long enough. Let us now live in the reality.
“Do not let your adorning be external … but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart.” ~ 1 Peter 3:3-4
